Named after:
The Ice Houses which stood at the junction with Queen's Road (see https://gwulo.com/node/6860 and https://gwulo.com/node/6069).
Renaming and renumbering:
The older section south of Queen's Road was originally known as Ice House Lane (e.g. see the 1889 map, plate 3-2 in Mapping Hong Kong), then later as Ice House Road (see the 1911 map, plate 3-4 in Mapping Hong Kong). The newer section to the north was known as Ice House Street.
In 1913 both parts were combined into Ice House Street (see Item 92 in the Government Gazette for 28 Mar 1913), and the buildings on the south section were re-numbered as follows:
