  • deleted the images from the top of the page that no longer work
  • set the condition to demolished, and added a demolition date of c. 1941 assuming it was severely damaged in WW2

26 Russell Road: Rural Building Lot (RBL) 52
Garden Lot (GL) 17

31 August, 1889
Lease on RBL 52 granted to Arthur Turner, Architect, and Godfrey Cornewall Chester-Master, Gentleman, as tenants in common for the sum of £565, with a yearly rental of £64.

1889–1890
Rate Collection Book shows a dwelling was already erected on the site, a mortgage for £18,500 having been arranged with Edmund Sharp of Sharp, Johnson & Stokes, Solicitor.

30 March, 1899
RBL 52 + dwelling thereon was sold to Joseph Charles Hoare, Bishop of Victoria, for £34,000.

7 August, 1903
Lease of GL 17 granted to Bishop Hoare for the sum of £465.

September, 1906
Bishop Hoare died; his widow's address is given as Bishop's Lodge, The Peak.

16 August, 1917
Mrs. Hoare (now residing in England) sold the property (RBL 52 & GL 17) to Sir Robert Ho Tung for $20,630.

7 June, 1930
Sir Robert surrendered the lease to the Crown – (That's as far as our records go).
