  • During World War II, John Probert was seconded to radar equipment operation and maintenance duties before serving as a Spitfire pilot. He was commissioned as an officer in 1942 and selected for flight reconnaissance duties with the RAF (Northwest Europe) in 1943. Probert was one of the six men who played a key role in the transition of maintenance responsibility for Army aircraft from the RAF to REME in 1958 and was instrumental in its success as a REME Aviation Pioneer.
