The two-storey building was previously used as a kitchen within Murray Barracks.
In February 1958, after the Government had concluded an agreement with the War Office for the surrender of Murray Barracks, the two-storey building was subsequently used by various government departments.
The timeline below only shows the building's connection with the Rating & Valuation Department (RVD) and Public Records Office (PRO).

(1) In November 1967, the RVD took over the ground floor of the building which was nearby their main offices at Murray House, 1 Garden Road.
