It was a 8 day visit to Hong Kong. Princess Alexandra and her husband Mr Angus Ogilvy left Heathrow, London on a British Airways jumbo jet on 1st February 1977. They arrived in Hong Kong on 2nd February 1977 to open the 5th Hong Kong Arts Festival (official opening 6th February 1977). They were greeted at the Kai Tak International airport by the then Governor of Hong Kong, Sir Murray Maclehose. In addition the couple toured Government-run housing estates and education centres, visited units of the Hong Kong Police and met community leaders. She also paid a visit to the new oceanarium, Ocean Park (including a cable car ride) and dropped into a local supermarket to buy some cream crackers.
