HKBU's The Battle of Hong Kong 1941: A Spatial History Project recently rediscovered a long forgotten HK Island PB, and added it to their map as LPB 19 (see https://digital.lib.hkbu.edu.hk/1941hkbattle/en/map.php and tick 'HK I Pillboxes' under 'Structures').

For this page on Gwulo I've adjusted the position of the marker slightly, moving it to an adjacent open space, based on the PB's probable construction date and a post-war aerial photograph. That area is now Exit B1 of the HK Uni MTR Station.

To maintain continuity with my Line of Gaps listing, and as the HKBU site uses a different code and number, I have nominated it as Kennedy Town PB 4 / LPB 19.

Isn't that pin in the wrong spot? The HKBU site seems to show it somewhere near HKU's West Entrance gate (approximately where the end of the annex to the Hung Hing Ying building ends). Around the West entrance as was in 1941 is certainly where the team I've been working with at HKU for the last ten years have been looking.

We've only recently got onto this, so it doesn't appear in vol. 1 of our otherwise comprehensive two books, Lawrence W.C. Lai, Y.K. Tan and Stephen N.G. Davies, Pillboxes on Hong Kong Island in the Era of World War II (Hong Kong: Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, 2021), and Pillboxes along the Gin Drinkers Line 80 Years after World War II (Hong Kong: Institute of Surveyors, 2022). (Unfortunately these are not allowed to be sold and are available to HKIS members only!)
