Bottles

Hello,

Looking for information about these two bottles.

I pressume the dairy farm glass bottle is for milk, but not the same shape as other known milk bottles.  Found on the peak.  Any ideas of what it was used for and / or date?

This stoneware bottle was also found on the peak.  Have found similar ones from Bourne Denby and Ervin Lucas, but haven't seen this makers mark before.

Thank you in advance for any info you can share.

Interesting finds, Bob! It looks like you have a first generation Dairy Farm milk bottle, from the 1890s-1900s. I think these looked a bit like conical flasks from the chemistry lab, when intact. I'm guessing the second bottle is of Dutch make, based on its generic 19th century Dutch earthenware gin bottle appearance. Lovely finds; thanks for sharing!

Thank you Jeff. Prior to finding this bottle I thought the Dairy Farm milk bottle on display at the Bethanie museum in Pokfulam is an example of a first generation Dairy Farm milk bottle. Do you know where I can find any additional refrences to this bottle ,photos ,adverts ect? Unfortunately for us slope sliders!  exstensive slope maintainance on the Peak is burying these relics quicker than I can recover them!

Thank you

Bob

Hi Jeff, thank you for your reply, had not seen that post before, was surprised to see that I am not the only 'Anorak ' out there who enjoys scavenging for old bottles!

The majority of old bottles in my collection where found on the slopes of the Japanese embassy ( Haystack ) on the Peak , thanks to wild boar activity nearly every visit is productive. If you are that way inclined its well worth a visit, just be aware that scrambling around that area will get you some funny looks ( even had the Police called on me twice!)

Cheers
