Sek Kong HMArmy Camp

Hi Everyone, I served with 14 Regiment Royal Artillery @Sek Kong camp 1960/62, I am trying to find out what Regiment replaced 14 Regiment when we left for UK 1962, any info would be much appreciated, thanks.

Just for clarity, I was based in the camp which was opposite the  area where the swimming pool and Globe Cinema were that is across the airstrip.We were moved to transit camp Kowloon to await HMT Oxfordshire docking where I assume the Regiment that was heading to Sek Kong would disembark

I made web enquiries regarding which Artillery Regiment went to Sek Kong after us but drew a blank.

6 bars at that time. Best of all Kwong Yick Restaurant, opposite the Police Post and next to the Pak Kau College. Every Wednesday night, Dick Ngar (Tina Leung) would take a Hung Pai 紅牌 (Hire car) to be a guest waitress (Bar Girl) from President Hotel,  Kowloon. (Now the iSquare)

I was telling a friend about the walled village at Kam Tin recently, and mentioned that whenever we were going to/fro Sek Kong Village (sometimes hitching a ride in passing landrovers, from Castle Peak or Yuen Long or wherever we were meandering along the way) we would often see squaddies hanging about the little strip of roadside bars;sometimes with a bar girl slung over their shoulder! All in good fun no doubt...Circa 72/73.

Well, Squaddies with bar girls over to shoulder,how uncouth, never heard that happening in the early 60,s when I was there, my buddy and I frequented the KT Rest/Bar most of the time as the 3 lovely girls there were gooy company eager to learn more English as we were for Cantonese, in fact I was lucky to have a platonic relationship with one of them, such  a fantastic memory of that time.Please expand on your time there as I would be very interested to hear, I'm heading for the big 80 in years next summer and hope to vi HK then if Covid allows.

Well Jim, hello from Australia. I was a student at St Georges (71-74) one of the few Aust families in the forces in HK at the time. Dad was in RAAF-sometimes at Lt Sai Wan and later stuck in a hut in some paddy field in NT surrounded by aerials etc.

There was a disco at Sek Kong Village (behind the NAAFI/swimming pool) on Fri nights and an Army bus used to take us there, but on the weekends we used to just wander around exploring the landscape, attempting part of the assault course, visiting the cinema at Sek Kong Camp.and causing the occasional bit of mischief here n there. Too young for the bar girls (although I had my 1st beer at 14 in a bar near China Fleet Club with some Yank sailors but that's another tale).

14/20th Hussars were there then and on the island The Irish Guards were stationed amongst the mix of RAF , RN and Gurkhas.. I think 14/20 th may've arrived from Belfast and The Irish Guards at end of deployment ended up there. Swings and roundabouts for that lot! Aust postings were of 2 1/2 years duration opposed to the Brit's 2 years generally.

Congrats on upcoming 80. None of us getting younger alas. Where is my time machine!
