42-storey World Trade Centre 28,000sq.m of air-conditioned office space rising from the podium, The Hong Kong Convention Centre opened in September 1975 and gave Hong Kong its first venue for international conferences of all kinds. Located in Causeway Bay next to the Excelsior Hotel. Phase I of the building (up to 26th floor) was completed by end of July 1975. The building was completed by end of November 1975, phase II (26th to 38th floors) were fully occupied by January. In late 1990 Hongkong Land sold the World Trade Centre complex to Sun Hung Kai for HK$220 million to help fund further investments.
