You'll recognise John Thomson's photos of Hong Kong in the 1860s-70s, as they are well-known scenes:
On the 13th of December, Richard Ovenden is visiting Hong Kong and will give a talk entitled:
Through China with a Camera: The Photographic Journeys of John Thomson
Richard literally wrote the book about this subject, John Thomson (1837–1921): photographer, so he's the perfect speaker. As a further credential, he also happens to be the current Bodley's Librarian at the University of Oxford.
The talk will be held in the Miller Theatre at the Asia Society Hong Kong, from 7-8pm. There is a reception from 6:30 til 7.
The talk is free, with tickets allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. You can register for the talk at: http://www.lib.cuhk.edu.hk/en/node/2100
I've booked a seat already - hope to see you there!
