the Map is really creaking under all the places, it often completely freezes the page when I use it.

If anyone is having this problem and can reliably reproduce it, please could you leave a comment below with details of the steps to make it freeze. I'll the feedback to help find a solution, and also contact you to try out any changes I make to see if they help.

i was getting it in chrome for a while when i zoomed in. I found that by unclicking the markers before zooming was a decent workaround. Note that it only happened when i zoomed in a couple of clicks, not when moving the map around.

I also see chrome, the issue is when zooming in with the markers loaded when the map first changes from the numbered circles to displaying every individual item it freezes. The problem seems to be confined to the central area where there are the most Places. See below for a screenshot:

Sometimes it will unfreeze a couple of minutes later, other times not.

As mentioned, The work around is un-checking the markers when zooming

Thanks for the helpful feedback. Please could you let me know the results of following these steps:

1. click link 1 (z15)

2. click the "+" on the map from step 1 to zoom in

3. click link 3 (z16)

4. click link 4 (z17)

I'm guessing 1 & 4 are ok, 2 will freeze, and I'm not sure about 3.

Once I hear back I'll make a change that I think will help, and ask you to try again.

Please try this link (z16) and click "+" on the map to zoom in. Any improvement or does it still freeze?

Previously we showed clusters (the coloured disks with a number on) as far as zoom-15, and for zoom-16 and above it just shows markers. I'm guessing that showing so many markers at zoom-16 causes the freeze. So I've changed it to show clusters as far as zoom-16, and only switch to all markers at zoom-17 and above.

This also freezes for me initially. If I go away from the page it appears to unfreeze until I try and zoom in again. The delay appears to be around 20 to 30 seconds during which time I can do nothing on the tab. My initial thought is that it might be a memory problem my PC, but this is the only place I seem to encounter it. I'm also running Win7 with Chrome browser (version 58.0.3029.110).

edit - just updated Chrome to version 59 and still freezes as described above, but the "hang" seems to be less..(if that helps)

I've made another small change, turning on a feature called 'chunkedLoading', which is supposed to help reduce the effects of freezes on Chrome. It works by splitting the job of building the map into chunks of work, and takes a short break between each chunk. The browser is supposed to stay responsive throughout, but the side effect is that building the map is slightly slower overall.

So, please could you try the link again (z16), click "+" to zoom in, and let me know how it goes.
