Originally this location was a shallow bay. You can trace the old coastline by the shape of Tung Lo Wan Road.
Then a raised road - a causeway - was built across the bay.
Then the inshore side was reclaimed and the seaward side was a typhoon shelter.
Finally the seaward side was reclaimed to become Victoria Park, and only the name 'Causeway Road' remains as a reminder of when it had sea on either side.
