I don't recognise the "AC Hall". Whereabouts was that?

Thanks for posting, we're getting a good variety from your collection.

Hi David,

The AC Hall (大專會堂) was a popular venue for Rock/Jazz Concerts back then.  I had had my share of concerts there in the 1980's.  It was in the campus of the Baptist College then.  It is still there but the college had been upgraded to a full University for some time now.

Hi there,

Other than AC Hall, Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wanchai was also among the more popular venues for Pop/Rock/Jazz Concerts organized by smaller organizers.  Certainly you have the Lee Theatre but usually it would be for more famous performers.  Other movie theatres which doubled as Cantonese Opera houses might also have the capacity to host concerts, but I could not recall any of these in the 1980s.  These type of theatres had been in decline since the 1970s anyway.

There were other smaller venues like those in the Arts Centre (Shousan Theatre).  I remember the original Flying Pickets had had a few concerts there in the early\mid 1980s.

Since the Academy of Performing Arts started operation, quite a lot of concerts.  I went to see the Fairport Convention there 1994.

Thanks for that, sounds like it had already fallen out of use when I arrived in 1989, as I only remember going to QE Stadium and the Coliseum. Though I think I went to AC Hall a couple of years ago for one of our daughters' school concerts.

Hi there,

There were other even small establishments for bands as well.  Mostly local water holes.  e.g. The Wanch in Jaffe Road is still up and running, still with a regular roster of sololists or small bands.    The various locations of the former Rick's Cafe was also host to various bands.  Primarily Jazz/Fusion stuffs.

On the otehr hand, who could forget the Fringe Club?
