1945 Victory Parade

Photo of the Victory Parade on Nathan Rd in September 1945.

Note the black sign with white chinese wording 'New East Asia' on the cinema building on the left of the photo. That was the name the Japanese assigned to the cinema during the occupation. Before, and after, it was known as 'Victory Theatre'.

There was a 域多利 cinema in the YMT/MK district in the 1960s, showing Cantonese movies. It was not on Nathan Rd. I think it may be the same one as the Victory Theatre.

BTW, there was a Victory Theatre in Toronto's old Chinatown. I remember watching McQueen's Bullitt together with some other shows there. It's been converted into a drug store now.

P.S. Upon further investigation, Victoria Theatre (Nelson/Fa Yuen) was 域多利, Victory Theatre (Nathan/Shan Tung) was 勝利
