Nationality Portuguese (British by birth) born Hongkong 1913, housewife, BAAG October 1942-Aug 45.

“Mrs da Silva (nee Phylis Anderson) after the capitulation went to live in Macao.  A few months later she moved to Kwangchowwan and on account of the business connections of her husband was able to pass information between Kwangchowwan and Macao.  Owing to the great distance between these places and BAAG HQs it was most desirable to have some one in Kwangchowwan to control and finance our agents there.  This highly dangerous work Mrs. da Silva carried out for three years in spite of the fact that she was watched and at times interrogated by Japanese Gendarmes and Chinese puppets.  On one occasion she was blackmailed by one of these latter who posed as being a new BAAG agent and it was only her great presence of mind and bravery which saved her and the whole of our underground organisation in Kwangchowwan and Macao from being exposed to the enemy.  In the face of this ever present danger she carried out her work most efficiently and with most exemplary bravery.”   (signed) L T Ride, Colonel.
