From the entry for Simon Lau in the BAAG Personnel Register, Ride Collection:

Nationality British, born Hongkong 14.9.10, architect, BAAG Sept.42.   Citation:

“After serving throughout the hostilities in Hongkong, this man refused to remain under the Japanese and he made his way to Free China and joined the BAAG.  He was chosen to form and operate an evasion intelligence group in the occupied area adjacent to the Kowloon-Canton Railway;  he carried out his instructions in a most exemplary manner for over 2 years and he and his group were the source of most valuable and accurate information concerning the enemy in his area.  In 1945 the Commandant chose him as guide and interpreter on a tour of inspection of evasion work; during this tour over 400 miles of semi-occupied territory was covered on foot and Lau’s services throughout were of the utmost value and revealed the thoroughness with which he had carried out his arduous and valuable work for over two years.”
