John (full name Walter John Butler) was the son of Dorothy and Walter Keates; Walter Keates was for many years the Editor of the China Mail in Hong Kong. John was a Sub.Lt. in the Royal Navy (I think the Fleet Air Arm), and was killed in April, 1953 in an air crash while serving on HMS Glory in the Korean War. His name is remembered on the Roll of Honour at the King George V School.
