It's reported on page one of the China Mail that Father Bernard Meyer has opened a club for servicemen on the fourth floor of the King’s building, next door to the Australian Red Cross, and almost opposite the ferry. Tea, cakes, eggs, fish, steak, chips are all available at reasonable prices.

Catholic Club postwar.
After I returned to Hong Kong in June 1946, I spent a lot of my time in this club, and organised the library there. Many servicemen came there.
Later, when HMS Amethyst came to Hong Kong after escaping from the Yangtse, in the club we entertained some of the survivors of the attack.
The club, Father Meyer's idea, was a great success.
