Hi, my Dad served with the 1stBattalion Welch Regt & was sent out to Hong Kong with the advance party in 1966. later that year I remember travelling out with my Mum & two other brothers. Dad told me many stories that happened out there during his tour! Including the monsoon's, fire at the base of our flats. The problems with the far right groups & the ever imposing threat of invasion by China. My Dad's name is Thomas George Owens. he was a Corporal in the 1s tBattalion. I think we left Hong Kong in 1967 as my mother was increasingly concerned for us boys. My Dad was very upset & has always regretted coming out of the army. Unfortunately He died on December 31st 2008. Hours before we were due to celebrate his 70th Birthday on 1st of January. My Dad's role what I remember, he was in the MT unit, a very keen mechanic I believe he worked/attached to the REME? If anyone knows of him & what he & his friends colleagues in his unit roles were other than what I've mentioned I would be extremly grateful. I followed Dad in 1980 into H.M Forces, not his regiment or army. But enrolled into a career in the RAF Regiment & have seen active service throughout the world. I am extremly proud of my Dad & I know he is of me. We remained close friends & are always be proud to have served.
