Chaloner Grenville Alabaster KC (1880 -1958) was the Attorney General of Hong Kong from 1930 to 1946.  He was interned in the Stanley Prisoner of war camp for the duration of the war.

He was the son of Chaloner Grenville Alabaster a British China Consular Official and had been born in Hankow.

More details are on his Wikipedia entry.

"On the 3rd (3 June 1942), I was invited to sign my name on a linen sheet full of signatures which was to be taken home by some of the Americans who had undertaken to embroider over each signature."

(Not sure if the diary entry above is with reference to Olga Franklin's embroidery or to the Day Joyce sheet ?)
