This is an image of my Grandfather from approx. 1945/1946
My Father and I have been trying to figure out what the monument in the background on the mountain top is. All we know about this photo is that is was probably taken while the battleship was anchored in Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong. Any assistance anyone could provide would be much appreciated!
The monument
It's this one!
Thanks for posting your grandfather's photo. It must have been a very interesting time to be in Hong Kong - if you have any more photos from his visit, we'd love to see them.
Regards, David
Wonderful!
Wow!! I cannot thank you enough!!
I would love to share more of his photos. I will have to see what else he has that isn't just photographs of the battleships. Thank you so much again!
The monument on top of Mout
The monument on top of Mout Cameron on Magazine Gap Road was built by the Japanese to celebrate the occupation of Hong Kong. It was soon demolished by the British when the war ended. The base wall of this monument is still there today
