Born 1910 in HK, son of policeman William Davitt and Margaret Hennessy, herself daughter of Policeman George Hennessy, thus third generation in the Force.  George returned to Ireland when his father retired in 1922, but came back to join Police in HK 1932.  Interned in Stanley, repatriated to Ireland, returning to pick up his police career in ?1947.  Died suddenly in 1950.

William Davitt  b 17.4.1873   enlisted HKP 31.10.1898  as Sergeant 73,married Margaret Hennessy,d/o George Hennessy,Inspector,HKP.Medically retired as Inspector in 1922 and drawing pension in 1939.Father of George Neil Davitt.

George Neil Davitt, born in HK in 1910,enlisted HKP as PC - Lance Sergeant     A 80 in 1932,Interned Stanley, died in Kowloon Hospital 2.6.1950.

In the 1911 Census of Ireland the Davitt family (William,Margaret,George Neil and May) were noted as visitors to the family of Timothy O'Sullivan (of HKP fame) at Scarteen Street,Newmarket,Co Cork ( from which town many HKP members originated).

His father was William Davitt of Co. Mayo.  I've found reference to him being a sergeant at enlistment with HKP, but in the Civil Service list of 1922 it gives him as constable, being promoted to Lance Sergeant on 1.12.1900, and full Sergeant on 7.1.1905.  Given that he's come from the RIC, this timeline sounds reasonable, as men rarely got to the rank of sergeant in that force by 25.

The family were visiting Margaret's relatives in Newmarket in 1911 - this Timothy is the brother/nephew of Margaret's mother.  He wasn't in HK, or in the police.  A lot of O'Sullivans from Newmarket were - but I think 1314 may be thinking of Timothy Murphy - also of Newmarket, and of HKP fame.  Lots of Newmarket Murphys in the Force, too.
