Hi Everyone,
I found this photograph of a Police Station in Hong Kong. It's from c1903. Could anyone tell me whether this is the police station in Kennedy town which was used as a makeshift plague hospital in 1894? (For more info about the image, please follow the link below)
Thanks,
Elliott
This image is found on the Library of Congress website. It shows a police station in Hong Kong. (More details here: www.loc.gov/pictures/item/98507446)
This is the Queen Road East entrance of the Royal Navy Hospital in Wanchai. The hospital was originally Seamen's Hosptial built in 1843 but become Royal Navy Hospital for navy and seamen in 1848. It became Ruttonjee Santorium in 1948. It was turn down in 1985 for the construction of Ruttonjee Hospital. The site become Jockey Club Garden. http://www.flickr.com/photos/61422138@N04/6181504432/
Thanks Richard, your marked up photo collage is a good one.

Those gateposts again
We've seen these gateposts before. In 2007 a reader sent in photos showing them in the grounds of Ruttonjee Hospital. If that's roughly their original location, the 1903 photo above was taken somewhere in Wanchai.

Re: Gateposts
Appears that the coronet gateposts were located at the entrance to the Royal Naval Hospital on Queen's Road East. See:

The title "Police Station" may not be correct as by 1903 the No. 2 Police Station in Wanchai would have already been located at Praya East.
Lord Chief Justice House - Wanchai

The link above has a good overview of the Seamans Hospital, and what I imagine to be the original Lord Chief Justice House in the background - now located on the peak.
