This is one of a series of drawings by artist Arseny Joseph (aka Joe) Savitsky of life in Hong Kong during the mid/late 1930s.
He was a Russian emigre to Hong Kong and arrived there in 1935 from China and was a commercial artist and member of the Hong Kong Police Reserves and was interned in Stanley Camp from 1941 to 1945.
In 1945 he left Hong Kong and was repatriated to Brisbane, Australia where he joined his family.
