The KCR through train service resumed after a 30-year hiatus (1979)

The KCR Hong Kong-Guangzhou through train service resumed on April 4, 1979, after a 30-year hiatus.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in Guangzhou, officiated by Geng Zhenlin, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Railways, and attended by Hong Kong Governor Sir Murray MacLehose.
