Dr. Noble's involvement with the Diary Farm was likely related to his involvement with the College of Medicine for Chinese (1887), because Sir Patrick Manson, the founder of the Diary Farm, and Dr. James Cantlie (the famous mentor of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the Father of the China Republic, who successfully rescued him in London 1896) were both key founders of the College of Medicine for Chinese and were also doctors with business acumen.

The College was founded in 1887 as the Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese, the city's first western medical school and one of the oldest in the Asia–Pacific region
