The Bobby Charlton All-Stars Squad, by h9430500

The 1977 Bobby Charlton All-Stars squad that toured Asia and played a high-profile exhibition match against a Hong Kong representative side was composed of retired and semi-retired British football legends.

Led by Manchester United and England legend Sir Bobby Charlton, the exact roster features:

Bobby Charlton (Manchester United & England)

  • Jack Charlton (Leeds United & England)
  • Alex Stepney (Manchester United & England)
  • Brian Kidd (Manchester City & England)
  • Noel "Nobby" Stiles (Manchester United & England)
  • Tony Book (Manchester City)
  • Harry Gregg (Manchester United & Northern Ireland)
  • Ian Callaghan (Liverpool & England)
  • Peter Lorimer (Leeds United & Scotland)
  • Billy Hughes (Sunderland & Scotland)

The player in the white shirt in the top photo is Bobby's brother, Jack Charlton.

In about the late 1980's or early 1990's I was present at a very entertaining after-dinner speech given by Jack at the Kowloon Cricket Club.

Growing up sharing a bed in the coal-mining town of Ashington, the brothers had entirely different demeanors .

Bobby was famously shy, reserved, and quiet, whereas Jack was loud, outgoing, and tough.
