I took a photo of the sign last week but had not posted it here yet. Unless they have removed it recently, the sign may still be there. May not be the original sign though.
The one I saw was white while I vaguely remember there was a plain aluminium or steel one previously.
T has good observations and memory. Old posts on the Web echo what he recounted in above : a shiny plaque caught my eye. It looks new and much bigger than the previous one .. (link) and a photo of how the previous plate was positioned on the 'John Denver tree' here, c.2017.
The current method of putting tree tags may be described like :
aluminium plate mounted by spring-loaded wires, wire is looped around the trunk at roughly eye level (as seen currently).
Some reports back in 2017 & 2019 from experts already reflect that the tree has grown slanted to the west and may become imbalanced.
Keep our fingers crossed that this thriving tree, despite the narrow space, trimming, would live many years more - and not lamed by negligence. May more people see the tree 🌲, not as passers-by.

The plate put on its trunk might be not there when I walked by 1-2 years ago. The words on it recorded :
