456 Barker Road, the Peak - page 2 of 2

"The kitchen opens onto the servants' yard, which encloses a single-storeyed service block extending away from the house at an angle.  This contains a garden store, a laundry, five servants' rooms, a servants' kitchen and toilet facilities."

"The ground floor walls are of 15-inch stone throughout, with the external face left its natural granite finish.  The main entrance has a bush-hammered stone surround, and with the canopy over it serves to frame and emphasize it in contrast with the finish of the first floor walls, which are of brick, plastered, and painted with Snowcem."
