Harold Collier was born in British Guiana and sent to England for his education. Harold subsequently attended McGill University in Montreal from 1907 to 1911 and graduated with a B.S. degree in civil engineering. His future wife, Dorothy Willis (1886-1965), also attended McGill University, from 1905 to 1909, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Harold practiced civil engineering after graduation and he went to China to serve as a missionary about 1927. Harold married Dorothy Willis in 1930 in Hong Kong. Harold was eventually repatriated with his wife Dorothy back to North America on the MS Gripsholm in 1943.
Harold and Dorothy Collier died in Hong Kong and are buried at the Chinese Christian Cemetery at Kowloon. The Cemetery is operated by the operated by the Hong Kong Chinese Christian Churches Union.
