My grandfather when he was a boy in Kowloon, circa 1907.
On the left is cropped from a restored and colourised family photo that has no AI tools used on it;
On the right is restored and colourised using AI tools, or what the photo restoration studio I go to calls "face-fixing software".
The photo restorer explained that the AI software does not work on all vintage photos. He showed me a faded black & white photo of his grandparents that did not take to the AI software, meaning that it did not work on that particular photo. He said that the AI software works well on grainy photos.
