Heavy draw-off fire hydrants were installed near the Kai Tak flight path and in other high-risk areas between 1962 and about 1971. This one on Lyndhurst Terrace is one of four that were approved for Hong Kong Island and the only one that still exists as of 2025.
The painted blue caps mean it's no longer in service.
