1884 - Belilios Star

The Belilios Star, a Hong Kong medal, was instituted in 1884, and was awarded in recognition of acts of gallantry in saving life at sea. The award had been founded by, and named for, notable Hong Kong philanthropist, Emanuel Raphael BELILIOS [1837-1905] | Gwulo

The particular example of the Belilios Star, as shown above, was awarded in 1901 to George Samuel Foden who, according to the 1902 Jurors’ List, was a Boatswain at the Hong Kong & Whampoa Dock Company Limited. Mr Foden had been born in Hednesford, Staffordshire during February 1878, and he had died in Los Angeles, California during  September 1963.
