During the Seamen's Strike of 1922 many Chinese workers in various industries downed tools and walked off their jobs in support of calls for improved working conditions. This little story published in the China Mail on 20 March 1922 tells how Hong Kong's expatriate frequenters of bars and pubs found themsleves with anywhre to quench their thirst and fill their stomachs. The proprietors of the bar at the Palace Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui saved the day for some and managed to remain open.
