Honiton Road and Westbourne Villas in the sixties (two)

Thu, 10/24/2024 - 11:42

This is a photo of Honiton Road and Westbourne Villas estate in the late sixties. In the photo, Honiton Road starts from Bonham Road (shown in the lower right-hand side of the photo) and next to Rhenish Mission Church, goes uphill on a steep grade, makes a sharp left turn and merges into Babington Path shown on the upper left-hand side of the photo. Westbourne Villas is in the middle of the photo. By late sixties, half the villas was demolished. So, only half of the villas is shown in the photo. The playground is the triangular-shaped area in front of the villas. As one can see in the photo, the estate was surrounded by a lot of big and tall trees believed to have been planted when the estate was built more than seventy years ago.  The leaves of these big trees had formed a canopy and pretty much covered the whole Honiton Road when you view it from above.

Note to Gwulo administrator: If possible, please incorporate this photo in my earlier  “Honiton Road and Westbourne Villas in the sixties” post so readers can have a better comprehension of what I am describing here.
