B747 about to land...first jumbo flight by Northwest Orient to HKG.
I drove out to the runway threshold to take these pictures.
I'm not sure about the date but at the time I believed it was the first B747 into HKG as I left in April'71

1970 Northwest Airlines Annual Report
Highlights of 1970
“On July 1, 747 service was expanded to provide a daily New York- Chicago-Seattle-Tokyo round trip, a second Twin Cities- New York daily round trip and a once-weekly New York-Chicago-Honolulu round trip. With delivery of additional aircraft, 747 service was extended to other system cities including Miami, Hong Kong, Taipei and Manila.”
Pan Am’s first B747 flight into Hong Kong was in April 1970. From Northwest Airlines’ Annual Report for 1970, the airline may have been the second carrier to fly B747s into Hong Kong in the same year after Pan Am. No date is mentioned for their proving or inaugural flight into Hong Kong.
