This extract from a 1908 Austrian trade monthly for the Far East was sent to me by a Gwulo contact on account of the reference to the eponymous company of my grandfather, C.E. Warren. The two-line reference in the section on Hong Kong refers to the opening of the first C.E. Warren & Co. tile factory in Bowrington. This would seem to indicate that the by now 70-year old John Olson, father-in-law of C.E. Warren had strong links with the German consulate in Hong Kong, as had his late friends C.F.W. Petersen and Louis Kirchmann. I have previously suggested that John Olson was a member of Club Germania which was across the road from the original Warren show room in Wyndham Street. It would be interesting to know if there were other references to the company in the German press.
