Fountain presented by John Dent, Esq. to the Colony of Hong Kong

From the  Photograph Album “China”, held at the University of Edingurgh. Attributed to  Lord Elgin, published between 1858-1864. Probably incorrectly attributed as it contains younger (end of the 1860s) photos.

This is Dent's Fountain. The person with hat and umbrella standing at the steps to the fountain could be John Dent, but that's just a guess. Fountain still under construction, the pavement around isn't finished yet.

Date picture taken
1864

Plaques at the base of the four couchant lions have not been put in yet. Perhaps before August 1864.

The man on the left appears to be connected with the waterworks as there is water flowing from the fountain. Facebook also suggests that the man on the right is Dent (?).
