Maude’s first letter after the liberation of Hong Kong. Japan surrendered on 15 August 1945. Rear-Admiral Harcourt reached Hong Kong with a large fleet on 30 August and at once went to the internment camp at Stanley. The internees’ joy knew no bounds.
