Typhoon Wanda damage at Shau Kei Wan

Tue, 08/08/2023 - 20:27

About 2,083 small craft, including junks, lighters, house-boats, marriage-boats and sampans, suffered damage during 'Wanda', representing 10% of the total number of local craft in port at the time. Of this number, 571 were sunk and 726 were wrecked. Small craft in the typhoon shelters, except for squatter-boats, fared reasonably well; the more serious damage to craft occurred in Shau Kei Wan (Aldrich Bay) and other open bays where large logs broke adrift from their moorings outside timber yards and wrecked any craft in their way.
