The High Building Research Centre of The University of Hong Kong was established by Professor Sean Mackey in 1969. A research station with a fully instrumented ten storey steel-framed building was built and operated here at Cape D'Aguilar from 1969 until the early 1980s, for studying wind effects on high-rise buildings. Data collected during this period helped revision and updating of the Wind Code in Hong Kong. Subsequently the super-structure of the experimental building and the four steel masts (relocated from Hung Hom in 1968) were demolished.
