A friend of mine found this old license plate on a hillside near Wanchai Gap. Can anyone shed light on it?

I would suggest that this is a U.K. number plate that was attached to a car or bike that had been shipped over from Britain. After the expat (?) owner registered their car in H.K. the surplus plate was disposed of ending up on the  hillside. My research online tells me that the plate maker 'Hills' was a company set up in Birmingham in 1927, and is still in business. As for the letter / number sequence, from July 1932 to April 1953 U.K. plates had three letters followed by three numbers. The second and third letters indicate the licence issuing authority. From what I read online your number plate letters 'UC' indicate that it was issued in London. The preceding 'O' is fairly late in the sequence so my guess is it was from a U.K. vehicle first registered in London in the late 1940's or early 1950's. I welcome any comments or corrections on the above!

Thank you Adrian. Through his own research, my friend has learnt that Hills plates transitioned from stamped to applied letters and numbers in 1948, which means that this plate was likely manufactured no later than 1948 (still consistent with your proposed date range).
