HISTORY OF THE ROSE BOWL TENNIS TROPHY Miss Olga Franklin was a Senior Nursing Sister in Hong Kong in WW2 with 2 other QARNNS Sisters in the RN Hospital. They lived under occupation of the Japanese from 1941 and Japanese Officers entered the hospital 30 Dec 1941 where they were then taken to the Military Hospital where they worked for 6 months. When they were moved to the Civilian Internment Camp at Stanley with 11 QAIMNS Sisters and two Sisters of the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, they were then released from the camp 30 August 1945. In 1947 to 1950 Miss Franklin was Matron in Chief QARNNS and became the first Honorary Nursing Sister to HM King George VI. Miss Olga Franklin CBE RRC KHNS gave the Rose Bowl to the winner of QARNNS Annual Tennis Tournament for the first time in 1949. |
