Hong Kong Flour Mills 1954

This is a picture of the then newly constructed Hong Kong Flour Mills in 1954. It is on the cover of a publicity leaflet put out at the time by the British company that built the mill, Henry Simon Ltd of Stockport.

The mill was one of the most modern in the world when it was built. Hong Kong Flour Mills was founded by Mr David L.F. Sung, a Shanghai businessman who had considerable experience in the flour milling trade, his father having founded the first modern flour mill in China in 1889. The mill was actually Hong Kong's second flour mill, the first venture, by Mr A.H. Rennie in 1908, having ended in failure. This new mill went on to become highly successful.
