Hong Kong Waterfront (The Praya), Central District, Hong Kong Island c1890.

Prominent in the foreground is the Pedder's Wharf at the end of Pedder Street. The principal jetty in the Central District for many years, it would move forward after the next major Praya Reclamation of 1890-1904' and be named Blake Pier. The corner building on the left is the premises of Jardine Matheson & Co. Next to it a 3 storey building with a flagpole-housed a German trading firm Stoltecroft & Hirst. Next is the Peninsular & Oriental Building of the well known shipping company whom recently moved here from a site further West. Next are Lane Crawford & Co's building, Union Insurance Company and the Douglas Lapraik & Co shipping firm.

Paulo, thank you for posting this clear view of houses at the1890 praya together with the owners of the buildings.

On the extreme right a bit of  30-32 Des Voeux Road with the sign Carmichael&Clarke (also only the first letters) is visible.
