chai wan resettlement estate

Photo was taken during construction of the Mark 1 ressettlement blocks of the Chai Wan Estate. As I seem to recall these blocks were built quickly in order to cope with the rapidly growing population of Hong Kong post war and to hopefully house those who were living in the sqatter huts which had sprung up in the abscence of other suitable housing and some of which can clearly be seen on the slopes of the hill behind he estate.  Lei Ye Mun fort can be clearly seen on the crest of the hill in the background.

It's great to see Blocks A, B and C (later renamed Blocks 17, 18, 20) in the picture. The Factory Building is also in the background.

I lived in Block 26 during 1961 to 1966. This picture brings back some fond memories.

Thanks for sharing this old photo.
