Recent postings and David’s book Volume 3 refer to HMS Terrible.
In 1899 HMS Terrible was involved in the Battle of the Taku Forts in north China in which warships of China, Russia and Japan took part. Also involved were 350 members of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, 40 Royal Engineers and 250 British bluejackets.
Images are from “Adventures Ashore and Afloat” by Admiral of the Fleet, Sir Roger Keyes, published in 1939. An interesting personal account of navy life on the coast of China including time in Hong Kong during the late 19th and early 20th centuries when there were ‘disturbances’ in the New Territories and Kowloon necessitating military actions.
