At Stanley Internment Camp, Hong Kong. August and September 1945. The oldest inhabitant of the camp, Mr A Raven, age 70, an architect from Yorkshire, demonstrates his home made lathe which he cionstructed from bits and pieces scrounged from the Japanese Guards and rummaged from scraps in the camp. The lathe was specially made to turn wedding rings frm 10 cent Hong Kong pieces for married women who were compelled to sell their gold ones for essential toilet requisites and food. Other articles supplied by Mr Raven's lathe were buttons for the home made clothes the internees made from bits of rags, corks for medicine bottles, pipe-stems for the men who smoked dried leaves, chessmen, draughts, and other necessary and unobtainable things.
