This photo (undated) was taken of my husband's aunt, Eileen Medley (internee in Stanley) prior to the invasion. She is depicted with my mother in law, Margrate Medley, who with her Mother, subsequently fled the city and spent the balance of the war in Australia. Eileen and her husband Charles were both eventually taken prisoner and interned in Stanley. The notes on the back of the picture are as follows: " Had tiffin on this beach. These kiddies were off a sampan - sweet kids and so interested in us. We stuffed them full of apples, sandwiches and chocolate. If they weren't sick, it wasn't our fault. (I'm wearing green shirt and oyster linen shorts.) Eileen is on the right and Peggy (Margrate) on the left.
