Shaukiwan below Lyemun camp road 1952.

Roughly the same location as the standpipe photograph?  (Andrew S)

I am fairly certain that this is a view of the rear of some now demolished buildings on the Eastern side of Wang Wa Street - immediately next to the steep hillside beneath the Lyemun camp

Thank you so much for the picture! I noticed this for quite some time, but I was confused. Now I have finally figured it out. I now live in the spaces behind these buildings. The front of these buildings (the other side) is looking toward Shaukiwan East Main Street. During the late 1950s, apartment houses were built right behind these houses to accommodate government employees, and my father was one of them. As a kid, I often looked out of the window, wondering who would live in those strange houses. Then came one day, I saw workers start demolishing them, and much taller structures took their place.
